How To Get There

From Chipping Norton follow the A361 south for around half a mile. Turn left on to the B4026 towards Charlbury. After about two miles take a left turn towards Dean. The stone is in a field to the right of the road, around 1.5 miles along it.

This fine megalith stands in isolation in the middle of a field. There has been speculation that this stone was part of a circle but there is no firm evidence to support this theory. The stone stands around 7 feet proud of the ground and is of the same oolitic limestone used at the Rollright Stones. There is a deep cleft at the top of the stone which local lore says was made by the chains of the witches who were burnt here!
