How To Get There

This site lies just off the A857 to the north west of the island. From Stornoway take the A857 north out of town. This road will take you right to the other side of the island. At the junction with the A858 keep to the A857. After 4 miles you will see a turn to the left signed for Clach an Truiseil. There is a small parking area near the stone.

This massive monolith towers an impressive 6 meters above the ground making it one of the tallest standing stones in the UK. I'm not quite sure how much of the stone must be hidden below ground level. Another couple of meters to make it stable?

I haven't been able to discover much about this magnificent stone, other than to say that in folklore it is supposed to mark the site of a battle.

If you visit this site then take the time to head less than a mile up the road and take a look at the puzzling Steinacleit.
