Callanish III, "Cnoc Fillibhir Bheag" - Isle of Lewis, Scotland
Stone Circle
National Grid Reference: NB 225 327

show a map

Although you can just drive up here from the main site and park by the road, I would recommend that you walk the three hundred yards from Callanish II (this site is clearly visible from there).

Categorised as "Callanish III" by Alexander Thom for those of us who can't get their larynx around the Gaelic, this "circle" appears in plan more like two concentric ellipses. A total of thirteen stones now stand here, though you might only be able to count eleven in the photograph above as two of them are hiding behind other stones, and one of them is very short. Seven others are fallen.

The stones are of the distinctive "Callanish type" with that wonderful white and grey stratified look. The stone which appears to be at the centre of the circle in the picture above (it is within the outer circle but more towards the rear edge) has a lovely pink tinge to it.
